Powerpoint chart created in office2013 is showing the word "VALUE" in versions of 2010 powerpoint... compatibility issue?

Hello,

A user created a chart in powerpoint 2013 that shows up great. When a user opens the chart in 2010, certain values show up as [VALUE] instead of the number. The number is clearly there in excel. Is this a bug or is there something the user is doing wrong? (sorry for the blurry powerpoint2010 picture)

Hi,

How did the user create the chart? Did only the chart occur the issue?

  • Create the chart the Excel and copy it to PowerPoint 2013.
  • Create the chart directly in PowerPoint 2013.

I had tested both of the two ways and it displayed correctly in PowerPoint 2010.

Thus, I recommend you follow the below steps to check the issue:

1. Create a new create with new data to test again. If every chart occurs the issue, I recommend you check the PowerPoint 2010.

  • Start PowerPoint 2010 in safe mode. If it works fine, the issue may be caused by the add-ins, please check the add-ins one by one.
  • Upgrade the Office 2010 patches and repair Office 2010.

2. If the issue only occur in the chart, please try to copy the chart to a blank PowerPoint 2010 or follow the below link to re-create the chart the test.

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/powerpoint-help/add-a-chart-to-a-presentation-HA102809565.aspx

If the issue still exists, please upload a sample presentation include the chart through OneDrive, I'll test in my environment.

I am having the same problem with a chart created in PPT 2013 and opened in PPT 2010.  The chart is not created in Excel, but in PPT.  I am automating the chart creation so it is not created in Excel for this project.  I have done this successfully for some time in PPT 2010.  Also, I have both PPT 2010 and 2013 installed because I need to use both at this time.  Especially since I cannot get the data labels to work correctly in 2013 so that the chart can be viewed in 2010.  Any help in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.  It is a substantial roadblock for my project and I have seen several other posts about this issue.  My workaround has been to print the 2013 chart to PDF so it can be viewed by someone with 2010 and not 2013.

Thanks,
